The 2011 team will forever be known as “The Comeback Crimson Bears.” Facing elimination in the Southeast Conference Tournament, after falling to Sitka 2-1 in a tightly contested game, the Bears rallied for three come from behind, dramatic wins in one day, to win the Southeast Conference Tournament and clinch the # 1 seed going into State.
JDHS faced Ketchikan first, in a “win and go on” “lose and go home” situation. Things looked bleak early for the Bears as Kayhi had saved their ace pitcher for the game and jumped out to an early five-run lead. But the Bears hung tough as they had all season, rallying for six runs in the third inning, three in the fourth, and ten in the fifth, cruising to a 19-9 state tournament berth clinching win.
JDHS needed to win two straight games against Sitka in order to win the SE tournament and nab the # 1 seed. After six innings, the Bears trailed the Wolves 5-4, but rallied for four runs in the seventh and withstood a two-run bottom of the seventh by Stika to hold on 8-7 and force a final game.
The score was knotted at six after six innings of play in the title game, when Sitka exploded for four runs in the top of the seventh, giving them what appeared to be a comfortable four-run cushion heading into the last frame. But JDHS rallied for five runs in the bottom of the seventh for yet another late-inning, come back win, as they defeated the Wolves 11-10, winning the SE Conference Tournament and accomplishing a feat no other Crimson Bears team has before, winning three gams in one day.
The Bears bats went flat at state, falling 8-3 to South Anchorage in the first round. JDHS lost again, this time to Kodiak in the losers bracket, by a score of 5-4 to finish with a tie for 7th in state. South Anchorage went on to win the State Title.

Team and Individual Statistics (NOTE: Individual batting statistics listed below are based on players with at least 33 at bats AB)
The 2011 Southeast Regional Championship Crimson Bears' Baseball season records are:
Batting Average = H / AB (H=Hits) divided by (AB= At Bats)
TEAM Batting Average = 248 / 589= .421
Leaders: James San Miguel .538 Miles Beddford .484 Lance Ibesate .479 Ryan Kelly .413
Four other Crimson Bears hit over .300
The better hitters have batting average of .300 or higher. However some hitters may hit lower than .300 but hit more timely hits than hitters with higher batting averages, for example hit when runners are on base or in scoring position (a runner on 2nd or 3rd) or hit to keep a rally going.
On Base % = (H+BB+HP) / (AB+BB+HP+SF)(BB=Base on Balls) (HP=Hit by a pitch) (SF= Sacrifice Fly Out).
TEAM On Base % =248+840+27 / 589+84+27+7 = .508
Leaders: James San Miguel .692 Lance Ibesate .568 Miles Bedford .536 Justin Brooks .500
Seven other Crimson Bears had an On Base % over .400
(The career highest OB% belongs to Ted Williams at .482). ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ERA= (ER x 7) / IP (Earned Runs x 7innings (in high school baseball) divided (/) by Innings Pitched). A good ERA is under 4.00.
WHIP= (BB+H) / IP NOTE: WHIP is another way to measure the effectiveness of a pitcher. Two pitchers could have identical ERAs but one pitcher could have a lower WHIP incating that he is a more effective pitcher. For example Pitcher A could give up no runs 1 hit and issue 2 walks. His ERA is 0.00 and his WHIP is ( 2 BB + 1 H / 6 innings pitch) = .600. Pitcher B could give up no runs 7 hits and issue 3 walks. His ERA is 0.00 and his WHIP is (3 + 7 / 6) = 1.66. A good WHIP is around 1.00 below that is excellant. A poor WHIP is 1.75 or higher. In our example Pitcher B is allowing nearly 2 runners per inning. If a pitcher continues on that path, trouble ahead. Here Pitcher B most likely had solid defense behind him or he struck out batters thereby pitching a shtutout.
