Please note that in 2012 the power of the aluminum bats was decreased. Bat performance has been limited to the "maximum performance limits of a wood bat, thereby minimizing additional risks" to those fielding the batted ball (see ASAA baseball rule change).
The change in bats was apparent as the Bears hit only six home runs all season, compared to 27 the year before.
The Crimson Bears batted .342 as a team and had an on-base percentage of .466. The team scored 7.8 runs per game while allowing 3.6 runs per contest. Lance Ibesate led the Bears with .524 average, 33 hits, 2 home runs, 20 runs batted in, and 16 stolen bases. Josh Magnuson hit .447 with two homers of his own, and finished tied for the team lead with 22 RBI with Kyle Gould, who batted .418 for the year.
The Bears had a team ERA of 2.98. Jeff Pusich led the team in Wins, ERA, and WHIP, posting a 5-0 record to go with a 1.12 ERA and a WHIP of 1.09. Ibesate went 4-0 with a 2.94 ERA and led the team with 49 strikeouts in 31 innings pitched. Magnuson went 4-1 with a 3.50 ERA and Tanner Petrie posted a 4-2 record to go with a 3.58 ERA and 47 strikeouts in 29 innings pitched. On May 15th and May 17th, Ibesate and Petrie threw back-to-back no hitters in consecutive games. A first in Crimson Bear history.
The road to the State Tournament first went through Petersburg and the SE Region V Tournament. In three games, the Bears outscored their opponents (Wrangell, TMHS, Sitka) by a combined score of 34-7, winning their 10th Region V championship.
Lance Ibesate and Ryan Kelly were both selected to the All Region V Tournament team.

No-hitter by Lance Ibesate against TMHS 5/16/2012
Consecutive no hitters were thrown by Lance Ibesate and Tanner Petrie for the first time in Crimson Bears' history and possibly the first time in Alaska high school baseball history. Lance Ibesate's no hitter was accomplished in five innings because of the mercy rule. Ibesate struck out 8 batters while walking two. Tanner Petrie faced 21 batters in 7 innings pitching nearly a perfect game. Petrie struck out 7 and did not walk a hitter.
State Championship
In order for the Crimson Bears to reach the State Championship game they had to face the undefeated Service Wolverines in the Semi-finals. Service came into the state tournament as the number one seed overall. The Bears scored early and often, bringing across two runs in the first inning, three in the third, two in the fourth, and three in the fifth, and led going into the bottom of the fifth inning by a score of 10-0. But Service fought back, scoring 6 runs in the 5th, two in the 6th, and two more in the 7th inning, cutting the deficit to 11-10, after JDHS tacked on one more crucial run in the sixth. In the 7th inning, the Wolverines had runners on first and second with two outs, but the Bears were able to close it out and head to the state title game.
Ryan Kelly led the Bears offensively, going 3-for-4 with a single, a double, and a triple, while knocking in 4 RBI. Christian Gould batted in two runs of his own in the win. Magnuson, the winning pitcher, started the game and pitched 4 strong innings, giving up just 4 hits and no runs before running into trouble in the fifth. Tanner Petrie came in in relief to pitch two innings and Ibesate came in as a closer in the seventh to pick up the save.
The Bears then faced conference foe Ketchikan in the State Championship game.
Ketchikan scored first in the top half of the first inning, tallying two runs off Ibesate, the JDHS starter. But the Bears responded immediately, tying the game with two runs in the bottom half of the first and then took the lead in the second by scoring two more runs. Ketchikan tied the game up in the top half of the fourth at 4-4, but the Bears took the lead back in the bottom of the inning, taking a 5-4 lead. JDHS unloaded in the bottom of the fifth, scoring seven runs on seven hits, including a grand slam by Ibesate. The big inning extended the Bears' lead and helped them cruise on to an 11-6 title clinching victory.
JDHS was led offensively by Ibesate who finished 4-for-5 with 6 RBI at the plate, including a grand slam. Kyle Gould went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, and Jackson Lehnhart added three hits of his own in the game. The Bears bats exploded for 17 hits in the win.
Ibesate pitched 6 innings of the game, tallying 6 strikeouts. Jeff Pusich came in in relief to close out the win.
The Bears placed four players on the All-State Tournament Team: Lance Ibesate, Ryan Kelly, Kyle Gould, and Jackson Lehnhart.

The better hitters have batting average of .300 or higher. However some hitters may hit lower than .300 but hit more timely hits than hitters with higher batting averages, for example hit when runners are on base or in scoring position (a runner on 2nd or 3rd) or hit to keep a rally going.

NOTE: all the individual pitching stats listed below are based on pitchers who pitched at least 20 innings.
Pitching Statistics: Won-Lost ERA WHIP Ratio K/BB Opp. BA # of pitches per inning
ERA= (ER x 7) / IP (Earned Runs x 7innings (in high school baseball) divided (/) by Innings Pitched). A good ERA is under 4.00
WHIP= (BB+H) / IP NOTE: WHIP is another way to measure the effectiveness of a pitcher. Two pitchers could have identical ERAs but one pitcher could have a lower WHIP incating that he is a more effective pitcher. For example Pitcher A could give up no runs 1 hit and issue 2 walks. His ERA is 0.00 and his WHIP is ( 2 BB + 1 H / 6 innings pitch) = .600. Pitcher B could give up no runs 7 hits and issue 3 walks. His ERA is 0.00 and his WHIP is (3 + 7 / 6) = 1.66. A good WHIP is around 1.00 below that is excellant. A poor WHIP is 1.75 or higher. In our example Pitcher B is allowing nearly 2 runners per inning. If a pitcher continues on that path, trouble ahead. Here Pitcher B most likely had solid defense behind him or he struck out batters thereby pitching a shtutout.
